SACRAMENTO -- Governor Gray Davis has named Silvia Saucedo
as a member of the Teachers’ Retirement Board. Saucedo
was appointed to the public representative seat on the 12-member
governing body for the California State Teachers’ Retirement
System.
Saucedo is an attorney for the law firm of Allen, Matkins,
Leck, Gamble & Mallory, LLP, in downtown Los Angeles.
She specializes in real estate and land use.
Saucedo is also a member of the board of the Los Angeles
Police Commissioners, which oversees the Los Angeles Police
Department. She was appointed to the Police Commission by
Mayor James Hahn in July 2001.
Saucedo earned her bachelor’s degree in history from
the University of California at Los Angeles and a Juris Doctor
from the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle.
“As a proud product of public school education I understand
the value and importance public educators have in our state,”
Saucedo said. “I hold them in high regard and am committed
to making sure their portfolio is wisely invested.”
The Teachers’ Retirement Board has exclusive control
over the investment and administration of the Teachers’
Retirement Fund. CalSTRS, with a $103 billion portfolio, is
the nation’s third largest public pension fund. It administers
retirement, disability and survivor benefits for California’s
public school educators from kindergarten through community
college, serving more than 715,000 members and their survivors.
