CalSTRS Series 2019 and 2022 Bonds investor information
The following information provides details related to the CalSTRS Series 2019 and 2022 Bonds issued to finance the expansion of CalSTRS’ headquarters.
Overview of bonds
On December 19, 2019, CalSTRS issued $340.6 million ($272.6 million par and $68.0 million original issue premium) in tax-exempt lease-revenue green bonds (Series 2019 Bonds) to finance the construction, furnishing and equipping of the expansion to CalSTRS' existing headquarters and pay capitalized interest with respect to the Series 2019 Bonds during the period of construction of the headquarters expansion. The proceeds from the bonds were also used to pay costs of issuance.
The Series 2019 Bonds, officially titled "California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank Lease Revenue Bonds (California State Teachers' Retirement System Headquarters Expansion), Series 2019 (Green Bonds – Climate Bond Certified)," were issued through a conduit issuer, the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank (IBank), a public instrumentality of the State of California, which provides financing for business development and public improvements.
In addition, on December 21, 2022, CalSTRS issued $16.2 million ($15.6 million par and $0.6 million original issue premium) in tax-exempt lease-revenue green bonds (Series 2022 bonds) to complete the construction, furnishing and equipping of the expansion to CalSTRS' existing headquarters and to pay costs of issuance of said bonds.
The Series 2022 Bonds, officially titled "California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank Lease Revenue Bonds (California State Teachers' Retirement System Headquarters Expansion), Series 2022 (Green Bonds – Climate Bond Certified)," were also issued through the IBank.

Green Bonds certification
In line with CalSTRS sustainability vision and guiding beliefs, the Series 2019 and 2022 Bonds were designated as "Climate Bond Certified" or Green Bonds by the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI). The certification requires annual reporting by CalSTRS to CBI to ensure ongoing eligibility for the certification.
