CIO announces new investment directors

CalSTRS Chief Investment Officer Scott Chan informed the board’s Investment Committee that June Kim, Rosie Lucchesini-Jack and David Murphy have been promoted to new positions from roles within CalSTRS after thorough recruitment and public searches.

June Kim, formerly the director of Global Equity, was promoted in July to senior investment director of total fund management. In this new position, Kim serves as the senior leader over the Total Fund Management Division, which was also established in July.

Senior investment directors make decisions that significantly affect the Teachers' Retirement Fund, advise the chief investment officer on sophisticated portfolio management strategies and decisions, and make tactical and strategic investment recommendations.

Lucchesini-Jack was promoted to director of the $41.2 billion Fixed Income Portfolio and Murphy was promoted to director of the $144.9 billion Global Equity Portfolio. Both were previously senior portfolio managers.

As directors, Lucchesini-Jack and Murphy’s duties include:

  • Sharing investment expertise with senior management and the Investment Committee.
  • Leading staff in the research, analysis and management of their asset class portfolios including formulating and recommending the board’s investment policies and strategies.
  • Guiding asset class efforts in implementing the transition to net zero.
