Tang, Yamamoto reappointed to board
Kenneth “Ken” Tang, of Alhambra, and Karen Yamamoto, of Sacramento, have been reappointed to serve on the 12-member Teachers’ Retirement Board.
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced their reappointments on February 16, 2024. Once confirmed by the State Senate, Tang and Yamamoto will serve through December 31, 2027.
Tang, who has been on the board since 2022, is the school board representative. He serves on the board of the Alhambra Unified School District in Los Angeles County.
The first in his family to graduate from high school and college, Tang holds a bachelor’s degree in child development and received his multiple-subject teaching credential at California State University, Los Angeles. He has been a teacher in Los Angeles County since 1997.
Yamamoto, who has been on the board since 2017, is the retiree representative. She taught second grade for 15 years in the Washington Unified School District in Yolo County and retired in 2007.
Yamamoto has a master’s degree in early childhood education from California State University, Sacramento. From 1978–1991, Yamamoto was a legislative assistant to several Assembly members in the California Legislature.
